Christmas in Harpenden

There are lots of events and competitions run by Harpenden Town Council to help you get into the spirit for the festive season!

Christmas Carnival, Market, and Lights switch-on:

Christmas Carnival will take place on 24 November from 12pm-6pm! The Carnival will be extended all the way to Harpenden Fire Station this year. In addition to all of the Christmas Carnival favourites, there will be lots of NEW activities & events this year, including a Mini Stage with even more entertainment, a second bar area, bookable Christmas workshops, outdoor wooden games, Christmas Emergency Services Open Day and a Boutique Christmas Market in conjunction with The Harpenden Collective.

All of the Christmas Carnival favourites will return for 2019: the Farmers’ Market, procession kicking off at 3pm, funfair, Young Enterprise stalls, Main Stage, Santa’s Grotto, the lights switch-on at 5pm, and more!

Town Mayor's Christmas Card Design Competition

Harpenden children ages 4-11 are invited to design a poster based around this year's theme, "A Very Merry Christmas."

The winner will have their design used for the Town Mayor's Christmas Card and will be invited to turn on the Town Christmas lights at the Christmas Carnival on 24 November!

To Enter:

  • Create your poster on A4 paper and write your name, age, school year and school/organisation on the back
  • Drop off your entry at the Town Council or post it to The Mayor's Secretary, Harpenden Town Council, Town Hall, Leyton Road, AL5 2LX
  • Deadline: 25 October
  • The winner & runners-up will be recognised at a Presentation Ceremony on 11 November
