Remembrance in Harpenden

Harpenden War Memorial

The annual Remembrance Parade and Service hosted by Harpenden Town Council sadly had to be cancelled this year due to restrictions surrounding COVID-19.

Although our public service isn’t able to take place, there are still ways residents can take part in Remembrance this year and pay tribute to those who have lost their lives in war. The Royal British Legion is encouraging people to take part in the two-minute moment of silence at 11am on Sunday, with many people planning to mark the moment of silence on their doorsteps.

In addition, the Town Mayor will lay a wreath at the War Memorial in a private ceremony on Sunday. The Council will be placing poppies at various locations in the Town Centre, Batford, and Southdown, and the “There But Not There” WW1 Tommy silhouettes are due to be replaced in the coming days.
