The Town Council is always looking at ways in which it can make improvements to the land that it owns for the benefit of local communities.
We know that Town Centres across the Country have seen significant changes in recent years that has meant difficult trading conditions for local businesses. It is widely accepted that one of the key things that a local council can do is help to create attractive and accessible public spaces that encourage people to spend time in them.
Across the Town Centre we own a number of spaces that form the Town’s public realm i.e. the publicly accessible areas between our buildings and Highways. These include spaces such as:
· Town Centre and Southdown Greens · The Concourse · Fountain Area · Sensory Garden · Thompsons Close · Harding Parade · Roadside raised flowerbeds
We are developing an improvement plan that will look at options for improving these areas and we want to understand how the local community currently uses these spaces and their ideas for how they could be used in the future.
Hard copies of the survey are available upon request.
