Harpenden Festival celebrates vibrant community
The inaugural Harpenden Festival was a big hit, with around 15,000 people attending last Saturday (5th September) on Harpenden Common, the High Street and Church Green in Harpenden. Harpenden Town Council, organisers of the event, were delighted that the Festival brought the local community together to enjoy food and drinks, live entertainment, free activities and so many people enjoying themselves.

Harpenden children choose new Hopper community bus name: “Hetty Hopper”
Harpenden Hopper, community bus service, together with Harpenden Town Council asked local children to name their new bus. 'Hetty' will join Harold as part of the Hopper service from this Summer.

New Harpenden Festival Announced
New in 2026, Harpenden Festival promises to be an incredible, vibrant celebration! Taking place on Saturday 5th September 12-6pm, there'll be plenty to do, see, eat and enjoy, and everyone is welcome. The Town Council is delighted to bring many free activities and entertainment to this event, making it an exciting day for the local community.

Music in Lydekker 2026 - returns with two fantastic bands
Returning for the 8th year, Harpenden’s much-loved event Music in Lydekker will take place on Saturday 22nd August 2026, 12pm-4pm in Lydekker Park. Live music will be performed by exciting bands in the beautiful surroundings of one of Harpenden’s most picturesque green spaces.

Teddy Bears' Picnic Line Up Announced!
Harpenden’s children and their bears are cordially invited to join Harpenden Town Council at the Teddy Bears’ Picnic in Rothamsted Park on Wednesday 5th August, 11am – 2pm. This event is an exciting highlight of the year and we are delighted to announce a fantastic line up once again!

Harpenden's First Padel Courts Opening
Harpenden Town Council and local operator Padel Pass are working in partnership to open a two court padel venue in Rothamsted Park. The new padel courts are set to open in early August and will offer the world's fastest-growing sport to the local community. The new facility will compliment Rothamsted Park’s thriving sports facilities including its netball and tennis courts, multi use games area, football and cricket pitches and will now include two premium padel courts.

Harpenden Hopper celebrates 10 years of connecting the community
For ten years, the “Harpenden Hopper” community minibus service has been a vital part of the local community, offering a reliable, low-cost hail and ride service around Harpenden. Its route covers areas not reached by commercial bus companies therefore the service is an important one to residents who would otherwise be unable to easily get around.

Banking Hub moves to permanent location
Harpenden’s Banking Hub, which opened as an interim Hub at Harpenden Town Hall in December 2024, has opened its doors to customers in its new permanent central location: 35 High Street, Harpenden, AL5 2RU. Its permanent move to the High Street ensures accessible banking services for customers of high street banks in the town.

Batford Festival this July will celebrate the importance of local community
Batford Festival this July will celebrate the importance of local community. Local charities, community groups, schools and entertainers will join together to create an exciting FREE line up on Sunday 5th July. The event will take place in Porters Hill Park. The location was chosen, not only because it is a beautiful park offering playground facilities and wide-open spaces, but because it allows local people to enjoy a community celebration right on their doorstep

Mayor's Civic Service launches 'Building a Better Future for our Young People' Theme and Announces Nominated Charities Youth Talk and Herts Young Homeless
The Civic Service is an annual service of thanksgiving which celebrates the new Mayor taking office and introduces their Mayoral theme for the year. This year, Cllr Wenn has chosen a theme of ‘Building a Better Future for our Young People’, a cause close to her heart, and this is reflected in her choice of nominated charities: Youth Talk and Herts Young Homeless.

Reintroduction of Water Voles at Batford Springs
Exciting conservation project in Harpenden! Harpenden Town Council has released 200 water voles in the Upper River Lea, a project which has taken rigorous planning over the last three years and reintroduces this important species to Batford Springs Local Nature Reserve after 40 years.
