Green Flag Award

Town Council staff and councillors with the 2019/2020 Green Flag on Harpenden Common

Lydekker Park and Harpenden Common have been recognised by the Green Flag Scheme as some of the best green spaces in the world. 2019 marks the 13th year in a row that the Harpenden Common has earned a Green Flag Award, and the third consecutive year that Lydekker Park has been recognised.

This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the spaces boast the highest possible environmental standards, are beautifully maintained and have excellent visitor facilities. Green Flag judges assessed management plans for Lydekker Park & Harpenden Common and conducted site visits on both spaces to determine how well the Green Flag Award expectations have been met. Green Flag Award applicants are judged against specific criteria including community involvement, health & safety, and environmental management.
