Harpenden Choral Society is delighted to present their 50th Anniversary Concert featuring favourite works suggested by the choir. The programme features Miserere by Allegri; I Was Glad by Parry; Bogoritsye Dyevo by Rachmaninov; Evening Hymn by Balfour Gardiner; Cantique de Jean Racine by Fauré ; The Spirit of the Lord by Elgar; The Blue Bird by Stanford; Beati Quorum Via also by Stanford; Locus Iste by Bruckner; Ave Verum by Mozart and Hymn to St Cecilia by Britten. These pieces are choir and audience favourites by virtue of their beauty and power and bringing them together in one programme should make for an enjoyable concert.

Harpenden Choral Society’s inaugural concert took place on 27th November 1975 in St Nicholas’ Church, Harpenden. The programme included works by Haydn, Handel and Parry and admission was 75p. The choir has gone from strength to strength in the last 50 years and even continued to sing throughout the COVID pandemic via online rehearsals. The 50th Anniversary Season will include the choir’s popular Carol Concert in December, performances of Vivaldi’s Gloria and Handel’s Coronation Anthems in March and Puccini’s Missa di Gloria and Rutter’s Magnificat in June.
