Deputy Mayor

Harpenden's Deputy Mayor for 2020/21 is Councillor Paul Cousin.  This is his first time as Deputy Mayor.  Paul was born in Bradford and grew up in Skipton, North Yorkshire.  After studying Business and Finance at The University of Sheffield he then went to work in the pharmaceutical industry before giving up work to be a stay-at-home dad when his twins were born.  He moved to Harpenden 5 years ago.

He was elected as a District Councillor in May 2018 and a Harpenden Town Councillor in May 2019.  As well as his work as a Councillor, Paul has a number of other roles including as a governor at the Lea School, where he also volunteers as a reading helper and as a volunteer at The Lister Hospital, where he spends time with patients in the last few days or hours of their life and who have no other friends or family visiting. He has also just become a magistrate.
