Memorials

Please read the following criteria before completing and submitting the application form available by clicking here.

The Town Council will only deal with memorials on Harpenden Town Council owned/managed land.

A formal application is required for all memorials via the Memorial Application Form.  

All memorials are to be paid in full by the person who makes the request. Costs are to include any equipment, fixtures, fittings that are required to install the memorial. (Subject to current VAT)

At the time of installing a memorial full contact details will be required. All memorials will be maintained by Harpenden Town Council but once they reach a state of disrepair the Council will contact the memorial owner and ask if they would like to pay for a replacement or for it to be removed.

A seat has arms and a back rest. A bench has no back rest or arms

If a memorial tree is damaged or needs replacing Harpenden Town Council will not meet these costs but the option of replanting will be offered to the original donator which they would fund.

Harpenden Town Council can provide suggestions of trees that would be suitable to plant in Harpenden Town Council owned/managed land.

Plaques are not permitted on any memorial trees.

Benches/seats should be made from recycled plastic or a renewable wood source approved by the Forest Stewardship Council. Further information on suppliers, costs etc is available on request.

Once a Memorial Application Form has been received this is to be presented to the Environment Committee for consideration.

If the location of the memorial is agreed by Harpenden Town Council consultation will take place with local residents if situated near any properties.

Once the memorial is approved the feature will become the property of the Town Council to maintain and insure. (Trees are not included)
