NEXT MEETING

THURSDAY 4 SEPTEMBER 2014

4.15pm START

COUNCIL CHAMBER,

HARPENDEN TOWN HALL

Harpenden Town Council, in partnership with Hertfordshire Youth Connexions and the local secondary schools, set up HYTC in 1998. The purpose of the initiative was to include the young people of Harpenden in the local governance of the Town and give them an opportunity to help shape their local services and amenities.

The current Youth Town Council Committee has recognised that success is based on active involvement and is looking to increase its membership to ensure as many young people within the schools and town are encouraged to be part of its ongoing success.

If you are aged 11-19, a local resident of the town or attend a Harpenden School then you can be involved. Everyone is welcome, especially those in younger years to make sure all age groups are represented in the council.

To increase youth participation is something that we'd love to see develop.

Our aims and objectives are:

  • To represent and communicate the views of young people of secondary school age in Harpenden and the surrounding area.
  • To work with other organisations within Harpenden and the surrounding areas to promote the views of young people.
  • Youth Town Councillors will act as representatives of young people at functions and encourage links with groups of young people.
  • To be involved in the organisation of events for young people.
  • To seek to further the understanding between groups of young people and to further the understanding of young people by the wider community.
  • We will advise on any aspects of the policy for Youth Work in the Harpenden area.
  • In pursuit of these aims and objectives, HYTC will not be linked to any political party and will promote local democracy to young people.

The next meeting is to be held on 4 September 2014 at Harpenden Town Hall.  We would love to welcome new members.
