Harpenden In Bloom

Harpenden In Bloom is a community initiaitve designed to enhance the appearance of Harpenden, Southdown and Batford, promote a sense of ownership of the Town by the local community and improve the quality of life for all.

Supported by the Town Council, the Harpenden In Bloom Working Party arrange a number of events throughout the year to encourage participation from members of the public of all ages from Junk Garden and Logo competitions to planting days and the opportunity for local businesses to promote themselves via the sponsorship of flowerbeds and hanging baskets.  Groups such as the local allotment associations and the Brownies all help out along with the Town Council's own contractors, John O'Conner to ensure that the Town shows off the best floral displays possible.

Harpenden In Bloom Competitions

The planned competitions for 2012 include:

• Best Young Person Project Under 12’s – schools         
• Best Young Person Project Over 12’s (i.e. 12-18) – schools
• JunkGarden(5-11 year olds)
• School Logo Competition
• Tallest Sunflower  - 5–11 year olds and aged 11– adults
• Best Communal Garden
• Best Balcony/Patio/Hanging Basket Display
• Place of Worship Floral Display
• Best Front Garden
• Best Back Garden– small
• Best Back Garden– large
• Best Allotment Plot South Harpenden Allotments and Gardens Society
• Best Floral Allotment Plot South Harpenden Allotments and Gardens Society
• Best Allotment Plot East Harpenden Gardening Club
• Best Public House (Class A - maintained by the Licensee)
• Best Public House (Class B - maintained by Contractor)
