Green Flag Award

665_Green flag award photo 2013_close up.jpgHarpenden Common has been recognised for the 7th year running (2013-14) as one of the country’s best green spaces with a prestigious Green Flag Award.

Green Flag Awards recognise and reward the best parks and open spaces in the country and Harpenden Common stood out after impressing the judges with its excellent use of green space, well-maintained facilities and high standard of safety and security.

"I am absolutely delighted that the Town Council has been awarded the Green Flag for the 7th year running, I wholeheartedly agree with Councillor Leadbeater’s comments below, this is a great tribute to all the hard work that has taken place and a wonderful achievement  for our community" Town Mayor Councillor Rosemary Farmer

"Harpenden Common is a wonderful asset, which is maintained at the high standard it has achieved through partnerships with a variety of organisations and agencies.   I would like to congratulate Council officers, and particularly our partners, John O'Conner Grounds Maintenance Contractors and the Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust, for enabling the Council retain its Green Flag accreditation for the 7th consecutive year.  But the Town Council could not have achieved this result without the enthusiasm of the Project Day volunteers and the commitment of the sporting clubs on the Common. Their support has been invaluable." Councillor Simon Leadbeater, Chair of Environment, Harpenden Town Council

Only green spaces that are free to enter and open to the public are eligible to win an award through the scheme, which is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.
