Deputy Mayor

The Deputy Town Mayor for 2014/15  Councillor Brian Ellis

Councillor Brian Ellis was elected as Deputy Town Mayor for 2014/15 at the Annual Meeting of the Council and Mayor Making on Monday 12 May 2014.

Brian has lived in Harpenden for nearly 30 years and is married with two adult children who attended local schools.  He spent most of his career working for large international banks in the City of London and Hong Kong.  His specialisation was the insurance and reinsurance sector which required extensive travel to theUnited States,Bermudaand Continental Europe.

Brian was elected a St Albans District Councillor in 2009 and is the Housing Portfolio Holder.  This function includes the redevelopment of sheltered housing into modern extra care facilities and the development of social housing on disused garage sites, of which 91 units are in progress.

As a member of the Hertfordshire Armed Forces Community Covenant Board he is involved in plans for the commemoration of the First World War, including Private Edward Warner VC of St Albans.   Brian completed an MA in First World War Studies at the University of Birminghamin 2010.

Brian was elected a Harpenden Town Councillor in 2011 and previously chaired one of the planning committees.
